MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Minneapolis Early Voting Center Closed Monday as Minnesota's October 13 Registration Deadline Approaches

The holiday closure interrupts in-person voting at the city's Elections and Voter Services office one day before advance voter registration closes, although eligible residents can still register later through permitted procedures.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 12, 2026).

Minneapolis residents planning to vote early in the November 3 general election should be aware that the city's Elections and Voter Services office is closed today, Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day.

The closure affects the city's Early Vote Center at 980 East Hennepin Avenue, where Minneapolis residents ordinarily can cast absentee ballots in person, register to vote and obtain voting assistance.

The timing is significant because Minnesota's deadline for advance voter registration arrives Tuesday, October 13.

According to the city's official election calendar, paper registration applications must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday, while online registration remains available until 11:59 p.m.

The deadline applies to advance registration. It is not the final opportunity for an eligible Minnesota resident to register and vote.

Minnesota permits Election Day registration, provided the voter meets eligibility requirements and supplies acceptable proof of residence.

The state's absentee voting process also offers registration opportunities after the advance registration deadline, subject to the applicable procedures.

For residents who have recently moved, changed their names or become eligible to vote, checking registration information now can help avoid complications later.

The Minneapolis Early Vote Center began offering voting for the November election on September 18.

Outside today's holiday closure, its published schedule lists weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through October 16.

Hours expand later in October as Election Day approaches.

From October 19 through October 23, the center is scheduled to operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekend voting is scheduled for October 24 and 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Additional extended hours are scheduled during the final week before the election.

The Early Vote Center serves Minneapolis residents only. The city also identifies the Hennepin County Government Center as an early voting location serving eligible Hennepin County residents.

At the Minneapolis facility, services include ballot drop-off, voter registration assistance, language support, accessible ballot-marking equipment and curbside voting.

The building has a free parking lot, and the city identifies bus routes 4, 25 and 61 as transit options serving the area.

Those practical details matter because access to voting can depend on transportation, work schedules, language assistance and disability accommodations.

The November 3 election includes major statewide and federal contests, along with legislative and other offices appearing on ballots according to voters' addresses.

Residents should confirm their registration status and review the official ballot information for their precinct.

The Minneapolis election calendar also identifies October 27 as the recommended deadline to apply for a mail ballot, allowing time for delivery and return.

For ballots returned in person, the November 3 deadline is 5 p.m. Mail ballots must arrive by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3.

The most immediate action for Minneapolis voters is to account for today's holiday closure and complete any desired advance registration by Tuesday's deadline.

Official election information is available through the Minnesota Secretary of State and Minneapolis Elections and Voter Services.
