Minnesota Invests Over $6 Million In "Live Well At Home" Grants To Support Aging In Place, Introduces HHSSA For Housing Stability
Minnesota is taking progressive steps to assist its aging population with Governor Tim Walz announcing over $6 million in state grants designed to help older adults stay in their homes. These grants, known as Live Well at Home, will be supporting more than 30 organizations with services ranging from home retrofits to caregiver support, "Living at home provides people with identity, comfort, and community," said Walz, as stated by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
The newly minted Homelessness, Housing and Support Services Administration (HHSSA) aims to strengthen the state's approach to homelessness, consolidating housing help and income support initiatives led by Assistant Commissioner Eric Grumdahl the HHSSA will also manage behavioral health grants related to housing stability, combining policy development and grant-making for adults and youth facing homelessness, as well as overseeing adult income support services; more details can be found on DHS's housing webpage via an overview document.
To enhance public knowledge on protecting benefits, DHS encourages following their social media platforms, where updates on news and events, including job opportunities, are posted regularly. Accessible formats of these updates can be requested through the DHS.
Concerning youth behavioral health, DHS is offering free webinars on effective care, and tackling post-pandemic behavioral health challenges, for foster parents, school providers, and hospital staff, addressing conditions and presentations, and the pressing issue of suicide risk assessment—registration is currently open for these pivotal sessions.
