Meals On Wheels Of Anoka County Celebrates New Name And Location, Enhancing Community Service

COON RAPIDS, MN – June 28, 2025 – Meals on Wheels of Anoka County, a vital organization dedicated to alleviating hunger and loneliness among seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, recently celebrated significant organizational changes, including a new name and a new operational hub in Coon Rapids. The changes are set to enhance their reach and efficiency in serving the Anoka County community.

Formerly known as Impact Services, the organization has officially rebranded as Meals on Wheels of Anoka County, a name that more clearly reflects its core mission. This change aims to better communicate their primary service of delivering nutritious meals to those in need across the entire county.

In addition to the name change, the organization has relocated its administrative and coordination operations to a corner office within the Graphics Finishing Services building in Coon Rapids. This new space provides a dedicated environment for their coordinators to manage the extensive logistics of meal delivery.

While the administrative hub is new, meal preparation continues to take place off-site at the Mercy Unity Campus in Fridley. From there, approximately 400 meals are prepared daily, five days a week, with an additional 700 frozen meals provided for weekend consumption. These meals are then transported to the Coon Rapids location, where five shuttle vehicles further distribute them to a network of 52 volunteer drivers.

The success of Meals on Wheels of Anoka County relies heavily on its robust volunteer base, comprising about 800 individuals, with at least 100 actively contributing each week. These dedicated volunteers are the backbone of the program, not only delivering meals but also providing crucial wellness checks and friendly conversation, which are often as vital as the meals themselves in combating isolation among recipients.

The organization emphasizes that their services extend beyond just providing a meal; they offer a crucial connection to the community, helping individuals remain independent in their homes. They accommodate most medical diets, including heart-healthy, diabetic-friendly, renal, mechanical soft, and pureed options, with Kosher and Halal meals also available in most service areas.

Community members are encouraged to visit the Meals on Wheels of Anoka County website at anoka.org to learn more about their services, sign up for meal delivery, or inquire about volunteer opportunities. The organization welcomes new volunteers to join their efforts in making a profound difference in the lives of Anoka County's vulnerable populations.

The celebration of these changes marks a new chapter for Meals on Wheels of Anoka County, reaffirming their commitment to serving the community with dedication and efficiency.
