Authorities Seek Public’s Help After Automatic Gunfire Incident In Columbia Heights

Columbia Heights, MN (August 3, 2025) — The Columbia Heights Police Department and the

Anoka County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s assistance as they investigate a shots-fired incident involving what authorities believe was a fully automatic weapon.

At approximately 1:51 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Columbia Heights police responded to a report of gunfire targeting a motor vehicle near the 1200 block of 43rd Avenue Northeast. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

During the investigation, officers recovered 45 discharged cartridge casings, indicating the use of a fully automatic firearm. Law enforcement officials have stated that the shooting does not appear to be a random act.

To aid in the investigation, authorities are requesting that residents and businesses within a two-block radius of 43rd Avenue NE and Pierce Street NE review their surveillance footage from 1:00 a.m. to 2:15 a.m. on August 2. Any footage that may reveal suspicious activity can be submitted securely through the Anoka County Sheriff's Office evidence portal:
