Coon Rapids residents have plenty of reasons to stay engaged this month as the city’s Senior Center and community partners roll out a slate of activities, educational programs, and opportunities to give back.Bingo Fun
The community is invited to join an afternoon of lighthearted competition at Bingo on Monday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Coon Rapids Senior Center. For just $5 at the door, participants can enjoy a game filled with prizes and camaraderie—no registration required.
Food Shelf Visit
On Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Senior Center will offer transportation to the ACBC Market, which provides fresh produce, meats, dairy, shelf-stable goods, pet food, and hygiene items in a welcoming grocery-style setup. The $3 transportation fee is payable to the driver, with limited space available. Nonresidents should meet at the Senior Center, while Coon Rapids residents will be picked up en route. Shoppers are asked to take only what they can carry, and visits are limited to once per month.
Back-to-School Drive
With the school year just around the corner, residents are encouraged to donate new school supplies—pencils, crayons, backpacks, and more—by Thursday, Aug. 28. Donations can be dropped off at the Senior Center to support local students in need.
North Suburban Chorus
Music lovers can enjoy a live performance by the North Suburban Chorus on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. The Roseville-based group of singers, ranging in age from 60 to 90, has entertained audiences for more than 40 years with a repertoire spanning pop, Broadway, spiritual, patriotic, and old-time classics. Admission is $8, which includes refreshments.
Travel Presentation: World Heritage Sites
On Friday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m., travelers and history enthusiasts can take a virtual journey with presenters Steve Pieh and Barb Kern-Pieh. The duo will explore England’s Stonehenge, Oman’s Grand Mosque, and the fascinating cultivation of frankincense in their World Heritage Sites Part 1 presentation. Cost is $6 at registration.
Well-Being Through Nature
The Anoka County Master Gardeners will lead an enriching program on Monday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m., focused on the restorative power of nature. Titled Nature—Essential to Our Health & Well-Being, the session will share research, history, and practical tips for connecting with nature to improve physical and mental health. Registration is $3.
Defensive Driving Classes
Seniors looking to save on auto insurance can take advantage of a Minnesota Safety Council Defensive Driving class. The next in-person session will be held Thursday, Sept. 11 from 12–4 p.m. at the Senior Center. The cost is $26 at registration. Participants completing the four-hour course are eligible for a 10% discount on auto insurance for three years. Online options are also available.
With activities ranging from games and music to lifelong learning and community giving, Coon Rapids is offering its residents plenty of opportunities to stay active, engaged, and connected in the weeks ahead.
