Anoka County Board Approves Preliminary $201.2 Million Tax Levy for 2026

ANOKA, Minn. — The Anoka County Board of Commissioners has approved a preliminary property tax levy of $201.2 million for the 2026 program year, marking a 9.9% increase over the current year’s levy. The decision was made during the Board’s September meeting.

The preliminary approval establishes the maximum levy the county can collect next year. Under Minnesota’s Truth in Taxation process, the final levy may be reduced during the county’s fall budget deliberations, but it cannot be increased beyond the preliminary figure.

“This step sets the ceiling for the county’s 2026 property tax levy,” county officials explained, noting that the final adoption will follow additional discussions and public input later this year.

The September action marks the first phase of the annual budget process, during which county staff and commissioners review funding needs for essential services, infrastructure, and public safety operations. The county is expected to hold a public hearing in December, after which the final 2026 levy and budget will be officially certified.

In November, property owners across Anoka County will receive notices outlining their proposed 2026 property taxes, based on this preliminary levy and proposals from other local taxing jurisdictions, including cities and school districts.

The approved preliminary levy reflects the county’s ongoing efforts to balance rising service demands, inflationary pressures, and infrastructure maintenance while maintaining financial stability.
