Andover, MN — The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office is publicly reaffirming its support for Domestic Violence Awareness Month by illuminating the front of its Andover office in purple. The visual display serves both as a commitment to victims and a reminder to the community about the ongoing fight against domestic and sexual violence. Purple is the color traditionally associated with domestic violence awareness.
The lighting initiative aligns with countywide efforts to honor survivors and raise awareness, complementing campaigns like Alexandra House’s annual “Purple Lights” program, which encourages residents, businesses, and public agencies to display purple lights throughout October.
Resources for Victims
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that victims should not hesitate to reach out to law enforcement for immediate assistance. Law enforcement is available to respond to reports of domestic or sexual violence, and anyone in danger is urged to call 911. Non-emergency contact information for the Sheriff’s Office is available at 763-324-5000, and the Andover office is located at 13301 Hanson Boulevard NW, Andover.
In addition to law enforcement, local organizations play a critical role in providing support. The Alexandra House, serving Anoka County, offers a 24-hour helpline, emergency shelter, advocacy, and other services free of charge. Victims and survivors seeking assistance can call 763-780-2330 or toll-free at 888-780-2332.
Through this lighting and outreach effort, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office aims to break the silence surrounding domestic and sexual violence, inform the community about available resources, and encourage victims and survivors to seek help.
