Prince Celebration 2026 officially begins Wednesday, June 3, and runs through Sunday, June 7, culminating on what would have been Prince's 68th birthday. Presented by Paisley Park in partnership with local organizations and civic partners, the five-day commemoration spans venues across Chanhassen and Minneapolis and arrives at a moment of unusual historical significance: the tenth anniversary of the artist's death and nearly five decades after he first emerged from Minneapolis to reshape popular music worldwide.
For Minnesota, the event is more than a music festival.
It is an annual reaffirmation of Prince's place in the state's cultural identity and a reminder that the story of one of the most influential musicians of the modern era remains inseparable from the city that raised him.
Prince was born in Minneapolis on June 7, 1958. Though international fame eventually carried him to stages around the world, he remained deeply connected to Minnesota throughout his career. He recorded extensively at Paisley Park, championed local musicians, cultivated what became known as the Minneapolis Sound, and repeatedly chose to build his artistic empire in his home state rather than relocate permanently to the traditional centers of the music industry.

The celebration's largest ticketed concert arrives Friday evening at The Armory in downtown Minneapolis.
The event reunites members of Prince's two most iconic backing groups, The Revolution and The New Power Generation, alongside Minneapolis music legend Morris Day and additional special guests. For longtime fans, the concert offers a rare opportunity to hear many of the musicians who helped create the sound that defined multiple eras of Prince's career.
The lineup reflects a recurring theme throughout Prince Celebration 2026: bringing together the artists who were not merely inspired by Prince, but who actively helped build the musical universe surrounding him.
Additional featured participants scheduled throughout the week include Miguel, Tevin Campbell, Bilal, Bootsy Collins, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Sounds of Blackness, and numerous collaborators who worked alongside Prince during different phases of his career.
A Celebration Moves Downtown
While concerts and Paisley Park programming remain central to the celebration, the most visible public event of the week will occur on Saturday, June 6.
For the first time, organizers have moved the signature Prince Celebration block party from Paisley Park to downtown Minneapolis.
The free public gathering will take place from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. near the towering Prince mural adjacent to Target Center at 101 North 9th Street.
According to Kevin Kurtt of Meet Minneapolis, the relocation is intended to create a larger, more accessible community experience in the heart of the city that shaped Prince's life and career.
The move also places the celebration within walking distance of many of the landmarks that helped define Prince's journey, transforming downtown Minneapolis itself into part of the event experience.
Organizers expect thousands of attendees throughout the day, making it one of the largest public Prince gatherings ever held in Minnesota.
The Prince Sing-Along and a Possible World Record
The centerpiece of Saturday's festivities will be the inaugural Prince Sing-Along, a large-scale participatory event designed to unite fans through the music that continues to connect generations.
Scheduled from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the sing-along will feature a choir of more than 100 vocalists under the direction of acclaimed Minnesota musical director Sanford Moore.
Organizers hope to attract between 10,000 and 15,000 participants.
If those attendance projections are realized, the event could establish a record for one of the largest community sing-alongs dedicated to a single artist.
The concept reflects Prince's unique ability to transcend demographic boundaries. His music reached audiences across racial, cultural, geographic, and generational lines, and organizers believe a collective public performance offers a fitting tribute to that enduring influence.

Also scheduled to perform is Kris Kollins, who earned national attention for portraying Prince in the stage adaptation of Purple Rain.

Following "The Purple Path"
Beyond the concerts and public celebrations, visitors will also be encouraged to explore a growing downtown attraction known as "The Purple Path."
Developed through a partnership involving Meet Minneapolis, Paisley Park, the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District, and The Minneapolis Foundation, the project returns for its second year as an interactive walking experience connecting key sites in Prince's life and career.
The route includes temporary installations and historical markers at locations such as:
