The City of Coon Rapids announced the opening Friday.
The bridge allows trail users to cross above Coon Rapids Boulevard rather than navigating traffic at street level. It connects portions of the regional trail on opposite sides of the roadway and improves access to surrounding neighborhoods, businesses and public spaces.
The project is part of broader infrastructure work associated with Port Riverwalk, the large redevelopment area extending along Coon Rapids Boulevard near the Mississippi River.
Port Riverwalk has been planned as a mixed-use district with housing, commercial development, public spaces and stronger pedestrian connections.
Separating trail users from vehicle traffic can reduce potential conflicts at one of the city’s larger roadways while making the route more comfortable for families, recreational cyclists and people using mobility devices.
The Coon Creek Regional Trail runs through multiple communities and connects residents with parks, neighborhoods and other regional trails.
Minor finishing work may continue around the bridge and adjoining trail even though the crossing is now available for public use. Residents should follow posted signs and remain outside any areas still marked for construction.
The city’s notice is dated July 17 but does not provide an exact publication time.
