MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Nine People Shot Outside Uptown Minneapolis Nightclub, Two Seriously Injured

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (July 20, 2026) — Minneapolis police are investigating a mass shooting that wounded nine people outside an Uptown nightclub early Sunday morning, prompting officers from every city precinct to respond to the crowded entertainment district.

The shooting occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday outside Reign Event Center, located in the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue.

According to preliminary information released by police, an altercation occurred outside the nightclub while a large crowd was gathered in the area. Gunfire then erupted, striking multiple people.

Police have not announced an arrest or identified a suspect. Investigators are examining whether some of the shots may have been fired from a vehicle.

Victims Arrived at Two Hospitals

Officers initially found four injured people at the scene.

A 20-year-old man was transported to Hennepin Healthcare with injuries initially considered potentially life-threatening. A 21-year-old man and two women, ages 22 and 27, were also transported with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

An 18-year-old man later arrived at Hennepin Healthcare with a gunshot wound that was not considered life-threatening.

Four additional victims arrived at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. They included a 21-year-old man whose condition was initially considered life-threatening and three men, ages 20, 21 and 22, with less serious injuries.

The more seriously injured patient was subsequently transferred to Hennepin Healthcare.

Police said Sunday afternoon that both men who sustained the most serious injuries were expected to survive.

Officers From All Five Precincts Respond

The number of victims and the size of the crowd prompted Minneapolis police to summon officers from all five precincts.

Emergency personnel treated victims while officers worked to secure the shooting scene, locate evidence and interview witnesses. People living nearby described seeing groups running from the area as police and emergency vehicles arrived.

Interim Minneapolis Police Chief Bill Peterson characterized the shooting as a dangerous act committed in a crowded district where numerous bystanders were placed at risk.

The investigation has been assigned to the city’s Focused Assessment for Shooting Trends, or FAST, task force. The multiagency team includes investigators from the Minneapolis Police Department, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and county sheriff’s offices.

City Leaders Respond

Mayor Jacob Frey called the violence intolerable and said preventing future shootings would require arrests, prosecutions, additional police staffing and investigative technology.

Ward 7 City Council Member Elizabeth Shaffer said she planned to meet with the nightclub’s ownership. She also expressed support for the victims and condemned the violence.

Community Safety Commissioner Todd Barnette said a lasting response would require coordination among police, county social-service agencies, state officials and community organizations.

The shooting comes as Minneapolis continues confronting gun violence in entertainment and nightlife districts where large crowds can make prevention, emergency response and investigations especially challenging.

Investigation Remains Active

As of the latest public update, police had not made an arrest.

Investigators are asking witnesses and anyone possessing cellphone recordings, surveillance footage or other information to contact Minneapolis police or CrimeStoppers. Information submitted through CrimeStoppers may be provided anonymously.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the original altercation or said whether the victims were specifically targeted.

This remains a developing investigation. Details may change as police interview additional witnesses and review available video evidence.
