MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Another Person Shot Near Nicollet Avenue as Minneapolis Expands Police Presence Following Weekend Violence

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (July 21, 2026) Another person was wounded Monday night near the Minneapolis neighborhood where a mass shooting killed one man and injured four others less than 24 hours earlier.

City Council Member Jamal Osman said the latest victim was shot in the arm and leg near East 19th Street and First Avenue South. The person was transported to a hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening.

Minneapolis records indicate more than a dozen police units responded to a reported shooting near the 1900 block of Nicollet Avenue at approximately 10:03 p.m.

Authorities have not announced an arrest or said whether Monday’s shooting was connected to the previous night’s violence.

Five Shot Sunday Evening

At approximately 8:20 p.m. Sunday, gunfire erupted in the 1800 block of Nicollet Avenue.

Police found four wounded men, ages 24, 28, 36 and 43. All four were transported to a hospital, where the 28-year-old man later died.

A fifth victim, a 26-year-old man, arrived at a hospital separately with an injury that was not considered life-threatening.

That shooting followed the attack outside Reign Event Center early Sunday morning, where nine people were wounded. The two incidents left 14 people shot in Minneapolis within approximately 24 hours.

Additional Officers Assigned

Minneapolis police said dedicated resources would be deployed around East 19th Street and Nicollet Avenue to establish a visible presence during daytime and nighttime hours.

Osman similarly said residents should expect continuous police activity in the area following Monday’s shooting.

Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson said the department is working with local, county, state and federal partners, including the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office, to pursue investigative leads from the weekend shootings.

Police have not publicly established that the shootings were related.

The distinction is important because proximity alone does not prove that the same individuals, disputes or weapons were involved.
