ST. PAUL, MN (July 21, 2026) Three adults were found dead Monday afternoon inside the leasing office of an apartment complex in St. Paul’s Highland Park neighborhood, prompting an evacuation and an intensive homicide investigation.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of St. Paul Avenue at approximately 4:10 p.m. following a report of gunfire. They entered the leasing office and discovered three adults who had died.

Police evacuated residents while officers secured the apartment complex and searched the surrounding area.

A person of interest was taken into custody later Monday evening. Authorities have not identified that person or announced criminal charges.

Search Warrant Executed

St. Paul Police Chief Axel Henry said investigators had executed at least one search warrant in connection with the shooting.

Detectives spent Monday evening processing the leasing office, collecting evidence and attempting to determine what led to the violence.

Authorities had not publicly identified the victims as of Tuesday morning. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies and formally determine their identities and causes of death.

Police have not disclosed whether the victims were apartment employees, residents or visitors. They also have not said whether the person of interest knew the victims.

The deaths represent St. Paul’s ninth, 10th and 11th homicides of 2026, according to police.

Investigation Continues

The location of the shooting inside a leasing office raises questions about whether the attack was connected to the apartment complex, a workplace dispute, a personal relationship or another circumstance. Investigators have not offered a possible motive.

A person of interest is not necessarily a charged suspect. Police must gather sufficient evidence before prosecutors can determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
