Highway 169 will close at 109th Avenue from Friday evening through early Monday while crews perform work connected to the reconstruction of the major Brooklyn Park and Champlin intersection.
BROOKLYN PARK, MN (August 13, 2026) Motorists traveling through northern Brooklyn Park and southern Champlin should prepare for a full weekend closure of Highway 169 at 109th Avenue beginning Friday evening.
The highway is scheduled to close at the intersection at 8 p.m. Friday, August 14, and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, August 17, according to the City of Brooklyn Park.
The closure is part of the continuing reconstruction of 109th Avenue and its intersection with Highway 169. The city said the weekend shutdown is necessary to install new infrastructure associated with the project.
This closure applies to Highway 169 itself and is separate from the longer-term closure and reconstruction activity affecting 109th Avenue on both sides of the highway.
Drivers should expect signed detours, additional traffic on surrounding roads and possible delays throughout the weekend. Motorists who ordinarily use Highway 169 through the project area are encouraged to allow additional travel time and select alternate routes before reaching the closure.
The Highway 169 and 109th Avenue project is a city-led undertaking coordinated with transportation agencies and the neighboring City of Champlin. Construction is intended to improve traffic operations and safety at an intersection serving expanding residential and commercial areas in both communities.
Planned improvements include reconstruction of 109th Avenue, changes to the intersection’s lane configuration, additional turn and travel lanes, accessibility improvements and replacement of the traffic-signal system.
The intersection is an important connection between Brooklyn Park and Champlin and carries commuters, commercial vehicles and residents traveling between neighborhoods on both sides of Highway 169.
Construction schedules remain dependent on weather, equipment and field conditions. Drivers should monitor city and state transportation notices for any changes to the reopening time.
