MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Minneapolis Releases About 2,600 Pages of Records From Annunciation Church Shooting Investigation
The documents provide an extensive account of the law-enforcement response, witness interviews and investigation into the August 2025 attack.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (August 26, 2026) Minneapolis authorities have released approximately 2,600 pages of investigative records related to the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School, nearly one year after the attack.
The shooting occurred August 27, 2025, during the first Mass of the school year. Eight-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski were killed. Many other children and adults were injured.
The newly released material is divided into two principal collections. One covers the Minneapolis Police Department’s investigation, while the other contains work completed by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and other assisting agencies.
The Minneapolis police report contains approximately 816 pages. It describes a response involving more than 150 first responders, efforts to locate the shooter, emergency treatment of victims, the clearing of rooms and interviews with students, parents, employees, neighbors and other witnesses.
The police material also includes references to 10 crime-laboratory reports.
The second collection includes a BCA investigative summary and information from 15 interviews. Those interviewed reportedly included the shooter’s father, a former romantic partner, library employees, a former City of Richfield employee and a family friend.
Authorities determined that the shooter, a former Annunciation student, fired nearly 120 rounds through church windows before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The released records may contain disturbing descriptions and other sensitive material. MinneapoliMedia is not reproducing graphic evidence or personally identifying information involving children.
The disclosure comes as Minneapolis prepares to observe the first anniversary of the attack. City officials have asked the public to respect the privacy of victims, survivors, families and the Annunciation community.
Some anniversary activities organized by the church and school are private and closed to the general public and news media. A public remembrance is scheduled Thursday, August 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Pearl Park, 414 E. Diamond Lake Road in Minneapolis.
