The community gathering will feature hip-hop, Afro fusion, Latin, ballroom, ballet, jazz and other dance traditions.

GOLDEN VALLEY, MN (September 25, 2026). Speak the Word Church International will bring families from across the Twin Cities together Friday evening for a free dance party celebrating National Dance Day.

The Family Dance Party will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, located at 515 Jersey Avenue South in Golden Valley. The event is free and open to the public.

Organizers say the gathering will give children, adults and families an opportunity to experience several forms of movement and cultural expression. The evening is expected to feature hip-hop, Afro fusion, Latin, ballroom, ballet, jazz and additional dance styles.

No previous dance experience is required. Organizers are encouraging experienced dancers and complete beginners alike to participate, emphasizing that the evening is intended to be welcoming, informal and accessible to people of different ages and abilities.

“Dance has a way of bringing people together regardless of their background,” event organizer Brianna Hill said. “This is not just an event for church people.”

Hill said the gathering is intended to provide a joyful and secure community space during a period in which Twin Cities residents have confronted immigration-related tensions and recent violence.

“After everything our community has gone through with Operation Metro Surge and a gunman opening fire at a Minneapolis apartment complex, we need a fun and safe space to come together and dance our cares away,” Hill said.

The program reflects a broader understanding of dance as more than entertainment. Dance can preserve culture, encourage physical activity, introduce neighbors to traditions beyond their own and create connections among people who might not otherwise share the same room.

Light refreshments will be available during the evening.
