COON RAPIDS, MN (November 3, 2026).
Coon Rapids residents are being reminded that the city's annual winter parking restrictions are now in effect, with overnight street parking prohibited as municipal crews prepare for the snow removal season.
The restrictions began November 1 and will remain in effect through April 1, 2027.
Under the city's winter parking rules, vehicles may not be parked on public streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., regardless of whether snow is falling or already on the ground.
The city also prohibits street parking when snowfall of three inches or more is expected. Those restrictions remain relevant until streets have been plowed from curb to curb.
The rules are intended to ensure that snowplows and other maintenance equipment can move through neighborhoods without encountering parked vehicles that obstruct road clearing.
One important distinction for residents is that the overnight parking ban is not dependent on winter weather conditions.
A vehicle parked on a public street at 3 a.m. may violate the seasonal restriction even when the pavement is dry.
The prohibition applies throughout the winter parking period.
Residents who ordinarily park along residential streets will therefore need to make alternative arrangements during the restricted hours.
Households with multiple vehicles, limited driveway space or frequent overnight visitors may need to adjust their parking routines.
The city's snow-related parking rules operate separately from the overnight restriction.
When snowfall of at least three inches is expected, vehicles are prohibited from parking on public streets until the streets have been cleared from curb to curb.
This restriction is designed to provide adequate space for snowplows to remove accumulated snow.
Parked vehicles can prevent crews from clearing the full width of a roadway, leaving snowbanks or narrow sections that may affect traffic movement and neighborhood access.
Snow removal is particularly important for emergency vehicles, school transportation, delivery services and residents traveling to work.
The annual parking restrictions are part of the city's broader winter street maintenance preparations.
Coon Rapids maintains a network of residential and major roadways that require attention during snow and ice events.
The ability to clear those streets efficiently depends partly on motorists complying with parking requirements.
Residents are encouraged to review the city's snow removal policy and make appropriate arrangements before the first substantial snowfall.
The restrictions also serve as a reminder that winter driving and parking conditions can change rapidly, sometimes before a storm begins.
The City of Coon Rapids published its reminder on October 29, confirming the November 1 start date.
Residents can consult the city's official website for additional information about its snow removal policy and winter parking regulations.
The seasonal restrictions remain in effect until April 1, 2027.
For residents, the immediate requirement is straightforward: keep vehicles off public streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., and observe the additional parking restrictions when significant snowfall is expected.
Compliance will help city crews maintain access to neighborhood streets as the winter maintenance season begins.
