Minnesotans in the Twin Cities and Rochester can now get renew their vehicle tabs at standalone kiosks at eight Cub Foods stores.

The addition is part of the Minnesota DVS's expansion of its DVS Now vehicle registration kiosks pilot program that began on Dec. 6, 2022.

The first two kiosks installed were at the South St. Paul and Rochester Crossroad deputy registrar's' office. Those kiosks were later moved to Cub locations in West St. Paul and Rochester in July as the final step in the pilot.

Customers can scan the barcode on a renewal notice or provide information to update their registration, such as address, license plate number, insurance provider, policy number and expiration date, and the county in which the vehicle is kept.

As of Nov. 16, kiosks are available at the following Cub stores:

Apple Valley: 15350 Cedar Ave.

Maple Grove: 8150 Wedgewood Ln.

Fridley: 250 57th Ave. NE

St. Paul: 1177 Clarence St.

Crystal: 5301 36th Ave. N.

St. Anthony: 3930 Silver Lake Rd.

West St. Paul: 2001 S. Robert St.

Rochester: 1021 15th Ave. SE

Aside from the total fees listed on the renewal notice, there is a $4.95 convenience fee for each vehicle renewed at the kiosk, as well as a 2.49% credit card processing fee. The credit card fee is the same if a person chose to renew tabs in person or online.

“Getting your tabs should be easy,” DVS Director Pong Xiong said in a statement. “Any time we can use technology to help make things easier, it’s a win for everyone.”
