Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at Anoka County Jail, who was found unresponsive in his cell on Saturday morning.
The discovery was made at 11:36 a.m. while staff were conducting inmate rounds and checks. Despite lifesaving efforts by jail and medical staff, as well as Allina paramedics, the man was declared dead at the scene.
The death is being investigated by the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.
In a statement, Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise said his office and the jail staff have a "commitment to identify and implement solutions to prevent deaths in our custody."
"The responsibility to provide care and supervision to all those legally confined to the Anoka County Jail is one I take very seriously. In-custody deaths bring profound impacts to many people including the individual’s family, friends, those housed with them, and detention staff,” he added.
