Following a slow start to winter weather, outdoor ice rinks in Coon Rapids are finally opening for the season. Ice rinks will officially open on Friday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. which is just in time for the holiday weekend.
Due to warm temperatures in December and a lack of a deep frost, it took much longer to build ice for the rinks.
Warming house holiday weekend hours:
Rinks are maintained daily with a routine schedule of ice shaving, sweeping, snow removal and flooding as weather conditions permit. While warming houses are open specific hours, outdoor rinks are open during normal park hours which are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Ice Skating in Coon Rapids
Coon Rapids offers many skating options within its park system. There are currently 5 regulation outdoor hockey rinks and 4 open skating rinks available. Rinks are maintained daily with a routine schedule of ice shaving, sweeping, snow removal, and flooding as weather conditions permit.

***Please note: if you are at a warming house during open hours and the building is closed, it may be due to a staffing shortage. Portable restrooms and benches are available for public use at all outdoor ice rinks.
Warming houses and ice rinks are closed if cold temperatures become extreme. Closure occurs when temperatures reach -5 or -20 wind chill. This is also the same closure standard for the outdoor rink at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.
