Anoka County Moves Forward On New Downtown Jail Over City Of Anoka's Objections

Despite strong opposition from the city of Anoka council, the Anoka County Board voted to move ahead with a new county jail on the downtown site of the current one.

The Anoka County Board July 9, on a 5-1 vote (Commissioner Jeff Reinert opposed) adopted a resolution locating a new jail in downtown Anoka between Third and Fourth avenues, adjacent to the Anoka County Government Center and Jail, as well as the proposed design concept presented by World Architects and making permit/plan submissions to the city of Anoka for approval.
