Mankato Police Explorers Seek New Recruits For Community Engagement And Law Enforcement Training

The Mankato Police Explorers are once again opening their doors to young individuals interested in law enforcement and community service, as they seek new members for their 2024-2025 season. The program is unique in the locality, being the sole agency to offer such an initiative for explorers. This opportunity isn't just about getting a closer look at police work; it's an immersive training ground for those aged 14 (or who are in 9th grade) up to 20 years old from the surrounding areas, including students from Mankato West, Mankato East, St. Peter High School, Bethany College, and St. Clair.

Per the announcement made by the Mankato Police and Fire on September 27th, training sessions are scheduled on Sundays from October 13, 2024, through April 2025. These sessions will be held at the Public Safety Center, located at 710 S. Front Street, and will occur between the hours of 5-7 pm. The training is dual-faceted, incorporating both lecture and scenario-based learning to cover all aspects of policing.

At no cost, all equipment, uniforms, and training are provided to the participants, highlighting the program’s commitment to accessibility and education. Additionally, there are multiple volunteer opportunities afforded to the explorers, including involvement in local events such as Kiwanis Lights, the Mankato Marathon, Shop with a Hero, and Salvation Army Bell Ringing.

An exciting aspect of the Mankato Police Explorers is the chance for members to participate in ride-along with full-time officers, further deepening their understanding and experience of the day-to-day duties within the force. Those hoping to broaden their horizons will be pleased to find that in April, the group will be attending the State Police Explorer Conference, competing for possible scholarship opportunities to college against other like-minded individuals from across the state and beyond. As the program website states, "Participating in Police Explorers is a great way to participate in the local community while building your resume." Interested parties can find additional information and access to the application by visiting the program's website, provided in the original post.
