The West Metro Fire-Rescue District, the joint fire department serving the cities of New Hope and Crystal, will get a new chief this summer.
Josh Kunde will be sworn in as new chief in July, officials tell CCX News.
Kunde will replace Chief Sarah Larson, who is retiring in July. Larson has been chief since 2012.
Previously serving in different firefighting capacities for 20 years, Kunde currently serves as assistant chief. He joined West Metro in 2014.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Kunde has also served as a part-time firefighter with the city of Golden Valley from 2005 to 2023.
Kunde is slated to be sworn in on July 16.
West Metro has three fire stations and more than 60 firefighters, most of which are paid on-call.
