Officers responded to the 1500 block of 11th Avenue South at approximately 6:26 p.m. on July 15 after multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers located the victim on the sidewalk suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Incident Details

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the shooting appears to have followed a verbal altercation between individuals who were believed to be acquainted with one another.

“This evening’s tragic incident unfolded in just moments,” said Chief O’Hara during a media briefing. “Investigators are working swiftly to piece together what led to this escalation.”

Authorities emphasized that the shooting does not appear to be random. No arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning, and investigators continue to review surveillance footage and canvass the area for witnesses.

The victim's identity has not been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin. Homicide detectives are leading the investigation, and the department is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Community Response

The shooting occurred just blocks from U.S. Bank Stadium and near residential buildings, sparking renewed concern over public safety in downtown neighborhoods. Elliot Park, one of Minneapolis’s oldest neighborhoods, has experienced sporadic violence in recent years amid ongoing efforts to revitalize the area.

MPD officials said increased patrols are being deployed in the neighborhood as a precaution against any potential retaliatory violence.

Community leaders and public safety advocates have called for continued collaboration between police, neighborhood organizations, and city officials to address the root causes of violence.
