Rep. Cedrick Frazier Announces Candidacy For Hennepin County Attorney, Endorsed By Attorney General Keith Ellison

St. Paul, MN — State Representative Cedrick Frazier (DFL–New Hope) on Monday this week officially announced his candidacy for Hennepin County Attorney, becoming the first candidate to enter the race following County Attorney Mary Moriarty’s decision not to seek re-election.

Frazier’s campaign is bolstered by the endorsement of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who praised Frazier’s experience, integrity, and commitment to fairness.

A three-term legislator and former public defender, Frazier brings extensive legal and community experience to the race. He previously served on the New Hope City Council and worked as an attorney with Education Minnesota and the Minneapolis Public School District. Throughout his career, Frazier has focused on ensuring equitable legal representation and strengthening public trust in the justice system.

In announcing his campaign, Frazier highlighted his personal journey from growing up in a low-income neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side to serving the Hennepin County community as a public defender and legislator. “Our communities deserve leadership that balances public safety with fairness, accountability, and justice for all,” Frazier said.

Attorney General Ellison noted, “Cedrick Frazier has the experience, vision, and integrity necessary to lead the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, ensuring the office serves all residents equitably and responsibly.”

If elected, Frazier would become the first African American to serve as Hennepin County Attorney. His campaign priorities include criminal justice reform, community safety, and expanding access to fair legal representation across Hennepin County.
