BLAINE, MN – Metro Transit has launched Metro micro, a flexible on-demand bus service designed to expand mobility options for residents in parts of Coon Rapids, Blaine, and Spring Lake Park. The service introduces app-based ride requests within a designated zone, allowing riders to schedule pick-ups and drop-offs at nearly any location in the area.
Unlike traditional fixed-route buses, Metro micro operates as a shared-ride service, meaning multiple passengers may be picked up or dropped off along the way. The service uses ADA-accessible minibuses that can travel on city and neighborhood streets, making it easier to connect residents directly to shopping, medical appointments, entertainment destinations, and existing transit routes. Metro Transit says the goal is to deliver fast, safe, and convenient service with minimal wait times.
Metro micro follows the standard Metro Transit fare structure. Riders can pay using cash, a Go-To Card (including TAP card, Metropass, College Pass, Universal Pass, Residential Pass, or Student Pass), or the Metro Transit mobile app.
Transfers between Metro micro, local bus routes, and METRO lines are free and valid for 2.5 hours, allowing riders to combine different transit services without incurring extra costs.
Trips can be scheduled through the Metro micro app or by calling 651-602-1170. Riders select their pick-up and drop-off points within the service area, which is bounded by Central Avenue to the east, 81st Avenue NE to the south, the BNSF rail line and adjacent parks to the west, and 117th Avenue to the north. Drop-offs at transit hubs and bus stops are available to support longer journeys across the region.
Metro micro runs seven days a week, offering residents a consistent transportation option for both daily commutes and weekend activities.
