The event, titled “Get Amped: The Basics of Electrifying Your Home,” will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Coon Rapids Civic Center. The workshop is free and open to homeowners and renters, with advance registration encouraged.
The session is part of Electrify Everything Minnesota, a statewide initiative managed by the Center for Energy and Environment, a nonprofit organization that provides energy efficiency and electrification solutions for residential and commercial properties. The initiative is supported by local governments and foundation partners working to expand access to clean energy resources.

The workshop is designed for participants at varying stages of the electrification process, from those considering future upgrades to those preparing for immediate changes. Organizers will present practical guidance on replacing fossil fuel systems with electric technologies, along with information on planning, costs, and available incentives.
The curriculum focuses on core components of home electrification:
These elements reflect widely recognized best practices in residential electrification and energy efficiency, which are increasingly being promoted at the state and local levels.
Workshop organizers will also provide information on financial considerations, including federal tax credits, utility rebates, and local incentive programs that can reduce upfront costs associated with electrification upgrades.
Guidance will include how to approach electrification incrementally, allowing households to transition systems over time rather than requiring immediate full-home conversion. Attendees will also be directed to technical resources and contractor networks that support project planning and installation.
The Coon Rapids workshop is part of a broader effort across Minnesota to increase public awareness and adoption of residential electrification. Local governments and nonprofit partners have expanded outreach efforts in response to growing interest in reducing energy costs, improving indoor air quality, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions from buildings.
Residential buildings account for a significant share of energy consumption, and electrification is increasingly viewed as a key strategy in statewide energy and climate planning.
By hosting in-person sessions, cities are providing residents with direct access to technical information and the opportunity to ask detailed, property-specific questions.
Registration is available through Eventbrite.
