The charge follows a midday shooting near Southdale Center that prompted widespread lockdowns in the surrounding area, including retail businesses and nearby medical facilities.
According to investigators and court filings, officers with the Edina Police Department responded at approximately 12:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 3300 block of West 66th Street.
Upon arrival, officers located Stroud with gunshot wounds. First responders initiated life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities secured the area as part of a large-scale response. Southdale Center and nearby facilities, including an M Health Fairview location, were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

The investigation has been conducted jointly by the Edina Police Department and the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.
Wren was taken into custody with support from the sheriff’s office West Metro Drug Task Force. He is currently charged with second-degree intentional murder and remains in custody as the case proceeds through the court system.
According to charging documents, the shooting followed an interaction between Wren and Stroud shortly before gunfire occurred. Investigators reviewed surveillance video and executed search warrants during the course of the investigation, recovering evidence believed to be connected to the case.
Authorities initially detained four individuals in connection with the shooting. Prosecutors later determined there was insufficient evidence to charge three of those individuals, and they were released.
Investigators have indicated that all known parties directly involved in the incident have been identified. The case remains under active review.
Mary Moriarty described the case as “complex and ongoing,” stating that investigators continue to analyze evidence as part of the prosecution.
Officials also acknowledged coordination between agencies involved in the response and investigation.
Stroud was identified by family members as a recent arrival to Minnesota who was pursuing a career in aviation mechanics and held certification as an electrician.
Family members have publicly expressed grief following the shooting and are seeking accountability as arrangements are made.
Authorities continue to request assistance from the public. The Edina Police Department is asking anyone with information, including potential security or cell phone footage from the Southdale area at the time of the incident, to come forward.
