COON RAPIDS, MN (July 6, 2026)
As the Independence Day holiday weekend comes to a close, the City of Coon Rapids is returning to its regular operating schedule, with municipal services resuming and elected officials preparing to reconvene for the first City Council meeting since the holiday.
Among the most visible service changes for residents is the reopening of the Coon Rapids Recycling Center, which concludes an extended four-day closure created by the city's Fourth of July observance and the facility's normal weekend operating schedule. City officials are also preparing for Tuesday evening's City Council meeting, where local policymakers will resume consideration of municipal business ranging from infrastructure and development to public safety and community services.
The Coon Rapids Recycling Center, located at 1827 111th Avenue NW, remained closed through Monday after shutting its gates on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
Although the holiday itself was observed on Friday and Saturday, the Recycling Center's regularly scheduled Sunday and Monday closures extended the interruption into a four-day operational pause. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, July 7, at 9:00 a.m.
The facility operates under its spring and summer schedule through September:
The Recycling Center serves residents with disposal and recycling options that extend well beyond curbside collection. Accepted materials include electronics, scrap metal, automotive fluids, organics, cardboard, and numerous household recyclables. The facility also operates a popular Reuse Room, where usable household items can be donated for others to take at no cost, supporting the city's waste-reduction and sustainability initiatives. Some specialty recycling services require nominal fees.
City officials encourage residents to sort recyclable materials before arriving at the facility to help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow during what is typically one of the busier periods following a holiday weekend.
Municipal governance also returns to its regular rhythm this week.
The Coon Rapids City Council is scheduled to hold its next regular meeting on Tuesday, July 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Coon Rapids City Hall, 11155 Robinson Drive NW. The meeting follows the city's Independence Day observances and marks the Council's first regular legislative session of July.
Council meetings provide the public with an opportunity to observe local government in action as elected officials consider resolutions, ordinances, public works projects, financial matters, development proposals, public safety initiatives, and other issues affecting residents throughout the community.
Residents wishing to follow the proceedings may attend the meeting in person. The City also publishes meeting agendas, supporting documents, approved minutes, and video recordings through its official website, providing multiple ways for residents to stay informed and engaged in local government.
Under Minnesota's Open Meeting Law, City Council meetings are conducted in public, with designated opportunities for citizen participation in accordance with the Council's established procedures.
The return of the Recycling Center and the resumption of City Council meetings signal Coon Rapids' transition from the holiday weekend back to its normal pace of municipal operations.
For residents, the week brings the reopening of one of the city's most frequently used environmental services, while City Hall resumes the legislative work that shapes everything from neighborhood improvements and public infrastructure to long-term planning and community investment.
With summer programming, construction projects, parks activities, and seasonal services now in full swing, city officials encourage residents to monitor the City's calendar and meeting materials for updates on municipal services and upcoming community events throughout July.
