MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Direct Balloting Opens at City Hall Ahead of August 11 Primary Election

COON RAPIDS, MN (July 25, 2026). Coon Rapids voters can now cast absentee ballots directly into a ballot counter at City Hall as Minnesota enters the final stage of early voting before the August 11 primary election.

Direct balloting began Friday, July 24, eighteen days before Election Day.

Under the procedure, eligible voters complete the required paperwork, receive their ballots and place the completed ballots directly into a ballot-counting machine. Although the ballots are accepted by the counter, election results will not be reported until polls close on Election Day.

Voting available during regular and extended hours

Coon Rapids residents may vote at City Hall, located at 11155 Robinson Drive NW, during regular municipal business hours:

• Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The city will provide extended voting hours as the primary approaches:

• Saturday, August 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Monday, August 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In-person absentee voting for the primary began June 26 and continues through August 10.

Residents who are not registered may register when voting if they provide approved proof of residence.

Ballots remain available by mail

Voters may also request absentee ballots by mail through the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office. Applications can be completed online, or voters may submit paper applications to Anoka County Elections.

The city advises residents requesting mailed ballots to act early enough to allow time for the application to be processed, the ballot to be delivered and the completed ballot to be returned.

Completed absentee ballots cannot be delivered to regular polling places on Election Day. Voters should follow the return instructions accompanying their ballots and confirm that election officials receive them by the applicable deadline.

The August 11 primary will determine which candidates advance to Minnesota’s November 3 general election.
