The posthumous collection brings another group of Prince recordings into public view more than 10 years after the Minnesota artist’s death.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (August 29, 2026) The Prince estate released “Timeless” Friday, opening another section of the Minnesota music legend’s vast archive through a new 10-song album drawn from recordings preserved in his vault.
The collection arrives more than a decade after Prince died at Paisley Park in Chanhassen on April 21, 2016.
Copies were available Friday at the Electric Fetus in Minneapolis, the independent record store closely associated with the city’s music culture and Prince’s relationship with his hometown.
The release gives listeners new access to work from an artist known for recording at a pace far beyond what could be accommodated by his official album schedule.
The Meaning of Prince’s Vault
Prince’s vault has occupied an almost mythical place in music history.
Throughout his career, Prince recorded complete songs, alternate versions, rehearsals, live performances and unfinished experiments that were never commercially released during his lifetime.
The collection reflected both his relentless working habits and his struggle to maintain control over how and when his music reached the public.
