MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Anoka County Seeks $672,967 Agreement for Child and Teen Health Checkups
ANOKA, MN (September 17, 2026). Anoka County is moving to extend a state agreement that would provide $672,967 for health-screening outreach to more than 25,000 children covered by Medical Assistance.
The proposal was presented to the County Board’s Human Services Committee on September 15. It would extend the county’s Child and Teen Checkups agreement with the Minnesota Department of Human Services through December 31, 2027.
Child and Teen Checkups is Minnesota’s version of the federal Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment program. It is intended to connect eligible children and young adults with preventive health services and identify medical, dental, developmental, hearing, vision and mental-health concerns before they become more serious.
County records estimate that 25,395 Anoka County children will be eligible for the program in 2027 and will not be covered by an Integrated Health Partnership participating separately in the program.
That represents an increase of 437 eligible children compared with the county’s 2026 estimate.
The administrative funding is calculated at $26.50 for each eligible child. The proposed $672,967 budget would be financed equally with state and federal money.
Anoka County Public Health and Environmental Services has provided Child and Teen Checkups outreach since 1992. Its work includes informing families about available screenings, helping residents locate participating providers and addressing barriers that can prevent children from receiving preventive care.
The increase in eligible children is consequential for Coon Rapids, Anoka, Andover, Blaine, Fridley, Columbia Heights and other communities served by the county. It indicates that the county’s health-outreach responsibilities are continuing to grow even as state and local governments face pressure to control health and human-services spending.
The committee was asked to recommend approval of the contract amendment. Final authorization rests with the Anoka County Board.
