MINNEAPOLIMEDIA NEWS | Anoka County Reports $2.25 Million in Federal Community Investments as Housing Authority Prepares Public Review
ANOKA, MN (September 18, 2026). Anoka County spent more than $2.24 million in federal Community Development Block Grant funding on infrastructure, nonprofit facilities, essential services and affordable housing during the 2025 program year, according to a performance report scheduled for public review before the Anoka County Housing and Redevelopment Authority.
The authority will hold a public hearing Tuesday, September 22, before submitting the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The report provides the county’s accounting of how it used federal community-development money and whether those expenditures advanced the housing, infrastructure and human-service priorities established in its consolidated plan.
County records show $2,247,331.50 in Community Development Block Grant expenditures during the reporting year.
The largest portion, $1,131,509.10, went toward neighborhood infrastructure. Three completed projects improved public parks and arts facilities serving areas with a combined 11,625 residents.
Another $476,600 supported improvements at two nonprofit facilities. Those projects expanded the capacity of local service organizations and directly benefited 209 people, according to the county.
Fifteen public-service activities received a combined $452,412.90. The programs served 5,030 residents through services addressing housing stability, basic needs and access to community assistance.
Affordable-housing initiatives accounted for $186,809.50. The county reported rehabilitating 25 owner-occupied homes, including 18 manufactured homes, to help residents remain in safe and affordable housing.
The housing component is particularly significant in a county where increasing home prices, rental costs and repair expenses can place lower-income homeowners at risk of displacement. Manufactured-home owners can face additional difficulties obtaining conventional repair financing despite owning their homes.
The public-comment period for the report began September 4 and continues through 4 p.m. Monday, September 21. Residents may comment by contacting Anoka County Community and Government Relations before the authority’s public hearing.
The hearing will begin at 10:15 a.m. September 22, or immediately after the County Board’s public-comment period, in Room 705 of the Anoka County Government Center, 2100 Third Avenue in Anoka.
After considering public comments, the authority is expected to submit the final performance report to HUD.
