COON RAPIDS, MN (October 7, 2026).
Nearly four months after growers, cottage bakers, artists and other small vendors began gathering each Wednesday outside the Coon Rapids Ice Center, the city's farmers market reaches the end of its 2026 season Wednesday afternoon.
The final Coon Rapids Farmers Market is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Coon Rapids Ice Center, 11000 Crooked Lake Blvd.
The market opened for the season June 17 and has operated Wednesdays through the summer and early fall, with the exception of July 1. The City of Coon Rapids confirms October 7 as the final scheduled market date of the year.
The market features locally grown vegetables and berries along with honey, jams, flowers and other seasonal products. Cottage bakers, artists and crafters have also been incorporated into the weekly market, expanding it beyond fresh produce into baked goods and locally made products.
The Anoka County Growers Association sponsors the market. The association operates farmers markets around Anoka County and identifies the Coon Rapids Wednesday market as one of its locations.
Wednesday's closing market comes at a natural transition point for Minnesota growers.
By early October, the products available from local farms have changed considerably from those appearing when the market opened in June. Summer berries and early vegetables give way to the produce associated with Minnesota's fall harvest, while preserved foods, honey, baked goods and other products allow vendors to extend their offerings beyond the growing season.
The precise selection Wednesday will depend on participating vendors and what they bring to market. Coon Rapids notes that vendors and products can change from week to week.
That variability is part of the character of a growers market.
Unlike a conventional grocery store supplied through regional and national distribution systems, a local farmers market is closely connected to what growers can harvest, prepare and sell during a particular part of the season.
The Coon Rapids market has also increasingly provided space for businesses that do not operate farms.
The city sought cottage bakers, artists and crafters to participate during the season, an effort intended to increase the variety available to shoppers and provide another community marketplace for small-scale vendors.
That gives the market a second economic function.
Residents buying vegetables, berries or flowers are supporting growers, while purchases from bakers, artists and crafters put money directly into small local businesses that may not operate traditional storefronts.
The market's 2026 season also included several designated community days.
The city scheduled a market kickoff June 17, Senior Day on August 19 and Customer Appreciation Day on September 23.
Those events helped position the Wednesday market as more than a weekly produce stop. For residents who returned throughout the summer, it became a recurring community gathering attached to the growing season itself.
The location contributes to that accessibility.
Rather than requiring shoppers to travel into Minneapolis or Saint Paul for a larger farmers market, the Coon Rapids market brings growers and vendors directly into the North Metro community for a three-hour period each Wednesday.
That local access is particularly valuable for residents who want to purchase food directly from producers but may not regularly travel to larger regional markets.
Wednesday is the last opportunity to do that through the Coon Rapids market this year.
There is no admission charge listed by the city, and shoppers can arrive at any point during the 3-to-6 p.m. market period.
Because the event is outdoors, weather can affect operations. The city directs residents to its social-media accounts for weather-related cancellation announcements.
As of the city's current October calendar, Wednesday's farmers market remains scheduled.
After Wednesday evening, the weekly tents, tables and produce displays will disappear from the Ice Center parking lot for the season.
For growers, it marks the conclusion of months spent bringing part of the local harvest directly to Coon Rapids residents.
For cottage bakers, artists and crafters, it closes another season of face-to-face access to customers.
And for shoppers who have made Wednesday afternoon at the Ice Center part of their summer routine, October 7 brings one final market before the North Metro moves fully into fall.
