Barring the legislature vetoing the choice, the design will become Minnesota's new state flag in May.
Minnesota's new state flag has been selected and will now undergo final adjustments before the State Emblems Redesign Commission submits the new design by the Jan. 1 deadline.
The commission on Friday selected the Luverne, Minnesota resident Andrew Prekker's design submission of a flag that features the North Star depicted on a blue background and three bars signifying snow, nature, and water.
Prekker's design was selected over two other finalists, known technically as designs F944 and F2100, which you can see here. Among those that didn't make the final three was the so-called "Starflake" design that won an (unofficial) public ranked choice vote.
Once submitted and barring state legislators vetoing the commission's choice, the flag will be introduced formally in May.
