Felony Charges Filed in Coon Rapids Stabbing Incident
Authorities have charged a Coon Rapids man with multiple felonies following a stabbing earlier this month.
Steven D’Jaun Ross, 53, faces charges including second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic assault by strangulation, and two counts of gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
The charges stem from an alleged attack on December 12 at a residence in Coon Rapids.
According to the criminal complaint, Ross attacked the victim, identified as his spouse, after an argument over dating apps found on Ross's phone. The confrontation escalated when Ross allegedly struck the victim in the head with a fire extinguisher, causing a severe laceration. He is also accused of strangling the victim for 15 seconds and stabbing the victim in the leg.
The complaint further details that Ross set up a camera to record the assault and later reviewed the footage while the victim tended to their injuries. Law enforcement observed significant injuries, including bruises, a stab wound, and a ruptured blood vessel in the victim's eye when the victim reported the incident on December 23.
Ross has a prior domestic violence conviction from 2015. Prosecutors have requested that he be held without bail until a court hearing, citing public safety concerns.
