ServeMinnesota Welcomes Mohamed Omar as Chief Operating Officer
Minneapolis, Minn. – February 12, 2025 – ServeMinnesota, the state’s Commission on National and Community Service, proudly announces Mohamed Omar as its new Chief Operating Officer. This newly created role will strengthen ServeMinnesota’s operational infrastructure as the organization continues to expand its impact across the state.
With initiatives spanning education, housing instability, health, and environmental conservation, ServeMinnesota’s work has never been more vital. Omar’s appointment comes at a crucial time as the organization scales to meet the needs of thousands of Minnesotans who rely on its services.
Omar brings a wealth of professional experience across multiple sectors, including finance, healthcare, and social services. He began his career in accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers before transitioning to strategy and operations roles as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs and a management consultant at Guidehouse and MorganFranklin. His dedication to public service led him to financial leadership roles at the Metropolitan Council and the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund. Most recently, Omar served as Chief Administrative Officer and Chief of Staff at Washburn Center for Children.
Beyond his professional achievements, Omar is a trailblazer in Minnesota’s civic and healthcare sectors. He is the first Somali American to lead a hospital board in the state, serving as chair of the Hennepin Healthcare System board. He also holds leadership positions with WellShare International, an organization focused on community health, and CommonBond Communities, an affordable housing nonprofit.
“Mohamed’s vision and expertise will enhance ServeMinnesota’s operations, allowing us to better fulfill our mission,” said Julia Quanrud, CEO of ServeMinnesota. “His commitment to public service, strategic leadership, and operational excellence will help drive even greater impact for communities across the state.”
“I’m honored to step into this role at ServeMinnesota and contribute to the organization’s transformative work,” said Mohamed Omar. “From our nationally recognized Reading Corps and Math Corps programs to our broader efforts in education, housing, and health, I look forward to expanding our reach and creating more opportunities for Minnesotans to serve and thrive.”
Omar holds an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship, as well as a Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) from Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School. He also participated in the University of Minnesota Humphrey Policy Fellows Program.
