There is a focus on bridges in Minneapolis, reconstruction of a highway in northern Minnesota, and more.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has revealed its 2025 construction project plans.
MnDOT says it expects to carry out nearly 180 road and bridge construction projects over the warm months, and a further 51 projects on airports, ports, railroad crossings and transit infrastructure. The projects were announced on Thursday.
MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger advised drivers in a statement to be aware of more work zones as the new construction season is upon us.
"With construction projects beginning in the coming weeks statewide, drivers should use caution as they see more work zones, more lane closures and orange cones – and most importantly more workers wearing their high visibility safety gear along the highway," Daubenberger said.
"We’re all safer when we pay close attention, slow down, remain patient and work together to safely share the limited space in a work zone."

Major projects in the Twin Cities
I-94 in Minneapolis: Repair five bridges including the Mississippi River bridge, which will require a full closure of eastbound lanes on I-94 between 11th Avenue South and Franklin Avenue Southeast. More information can be found here.
I-35W in Burnsville: The interstate will be resurfaced between Cliff Road and the Burnsville split. Bridges will also be repaired and replaced at Cliff Road, Highway 13 and Burnsville Parkway. Plans also include updating a guardrail and improving drainage. More information can be found here.
I-494 in Edina and Richfield: The westbound I-494 bridge and the I-35W/I-494 interchange bridges are being reconstructed and repaired. More information can be found here.
I-494 in Bloomington, Eagan and Mendota Heights: The I-494 bridge over the Minnesota River in need of major repairs to its pavement, reconstruction to the regional trail, highway lighting, and more. More information can be found here.
Highway 5/East 7th Street and Highway 61/Arcade Street in St. Paul and Maplewood: A two-year reconstruction project begins with resurfacing of the road, repairing sidewalks and updating curb ramps, driveways, pedestrian lighting, traffic signals and bus stops. More information can be found here.
I-394 and I-94 in Minneapolis: A total of 34 bridges and ramps will be repaired along the two freeways, along with accessibility, lighting and sidewalk improvements. More information can be found here.
I-94 and I-35E in St. Paul: A total of 11 bridges — including the John Ireland Boulevard bridge — will be repaired. The construction will also include railing replacements, sidewalk repairs, and safety and cosmetic changes. More information can be found here.
Highway 10 in Coon Rapids: A third lane will be added to the highway in each direction, as traffic levels and congestion between Hanson Boulevard and Round Lake Boulevard have increased "at a rapid rate the past several years," according to MnDOT. More information can be found here.
Major projects in greater Minnesota
I-35 in Hinckley: The third and final stage of the I-35 Hinckley Bridge replacement project is expected to be completed this summer. Crews will replace the southbound I-35W bridges spanning the Grindstone River and a railroad. More information can be found here.
Highway 12 from Litchfield to Cokato: Crews are expected to complete the second and final stage of the highway's concrete repair, culvert and accessibility improvements project. More information can be found here .
Highway 371 in northern Minnesota: The highway will be expanded through Hackensack to add a center turn lane, additional sidewalks and parallel parking on both sides of the road, with a roundabout installed at the Highway 371/Cass County Road 5 intersection. More information can be found here.
I-94 from Rothsay to Fergus Falls: The eastbound lanes on I-94 will be resurfaced from just west of County Road 11 near Rothsay to Highway 59 near Fergus Falls. More information can be found here.
11th Street underpass in Moorhead: The Highway 10, 75 - 11th Street Underpass project is entering the second of three stages of construction. The project includes constructing two underpasses under BNSF rail lines, paving, sidewalk improvements, utility replacements and other improvements. More information can be found here.
Highway 22 from Mankato to St. Peter: The roadway from south of Blue Earth County Road 57 in Mankato to just south of the Minnesota River Bridge in St. Peter will be reconstructed. New turn lanes and passing lanes will be added, along with a new roundabout constructed at Hill Street in Kasota. More information can be found here.
Highway 19 in Marshall: The first year of reconstructing Highway 19 begins from 700 feet west of Marlene Street through the intersection of Bruce Street. A single-lane roundabout will also be constructed at the intersection of Highway 19/College Drive, Country Club Drive and South 2nd Street. More information can be found here.
