Summer is here, and so is the "Rec on the Spot," a mobile recreation program that promises to keep children and teens engaged with various fun activities. Starting on June 9 and continuing through August 14, the venture is setting its sights on parks across the city, offering free entertainment for those aged 5-14.
The initiative will roll out on a set schedule, Monday through Thursday, with two sessions each day - the first beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the second at 12:30 p.m., each running for two hours; however, note that there will be a brief hiatus from June 30 to July 3 during which there won't be any sessions, the aim is to connect with as many youths as possible, and there's no need to sign up in advance, just show up and join in on the fun. Families can drop their children off for a bit of leisure, with the comforting knowledge that all activities are under the supervision of staff during program hours.
The program is set to make its rounds, with Mondays scheduled at Thorpe Park in the morning and Riverview Park in the afternoon, Tuesdays will have the team at Sand Creek Park for the first slot and again at Riverview Park for the second, the pattern continues for Wednesdays at Prairie Oaks Park and Riverview Park and rounds off the week on Thursdays at Woodcrest Park followed by—you guessed it—Riverview Park.
This community-focused program is brought to life by the sponsor CharitAbleMN, and they’re committed to ensuring it goes off without a hitch; still, it’s Minnesota, and the weather has other plans sometimes. Follow their Facebook page for any weather-related updates or changes to the schedule. In their announcement, the City of Coon Rapids confirmed that "no registration required" for what looks to be a summer loaded with opportunities to play and make new friends.
