Round Lake Boulevard Bridge Repairs to Close Highway 10 in Coon Rapids This Weekend

COON RAPIDS, MN — The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has announced that both directions of Highway 10 and Round Lake Boulevard in Coon Rapids will be closed this weekend to allow for critical bridge repairs. The closure begins at 10 p.m. Friday, September 12, and is expected to end by 5 a.m. Monday, September 15.

The work is part of the ongoing Highway 10 Improvement Project, a multi-year effort launched in March 2025 to add a third lane in each direction between Hanson Boulevard and Round Lake Boulevard. The $98 million project is designed to increase traffic capacity, reduce congestion, and improve safety along one of the region’s busiest commuter corridors.

Cause of Repairs

The Round Lake Boulevard bridge sustained structural damage on April 22, 2025, when a dump truck with its box raised struck a girder while entering eastbound Highway 10. The impact forced immediate lane closures and a temporary detour while MnDOT engineers assessed the damage.

This weekend’s work involves replacing the damaged girder and repouring a portion of the bridge deck to restore full structural integrity. Officials caution that additional closures on the southbound side of the bridge will likely be needed in the weeks ahead.

Detours in Place

During the closure period, motorists will be directed to follow signed detours:

  • Highway 10 traffic will use the ramps at Round Lake Boulevard.
  • Southbound Round Lake Boulevard traffic will detour via Northdale Boulevard.
  • Northbound Round Lake Boulevard traffic will be routed onto Main Street.

Looking Ahead

MnDOT emphasized that the construction schedule is weather dependent, and further closures are possible as repairs continue.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and check 511mn.org or the Minnesota 511 smartphone app for the latest updates on road conditions and traffic impacts.
