COON RAPIDS, Minn. The City of Coon Rapids will welcome residents to one of its signature winter traditions next weekend: the annual Community Tree Lighting Festival, returning to Boulevard Plaza on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

The free, family-friendly celebration features a full slate of holiday activities, including hot cocoa and cookies, ornament making, photos with Santa, live music, snow hills (weather permitting), and fire pits to help guests stay warm. Boulevard Plaza, located at 11002 Crooked Lake Blvd., will serve as the festive gathering place overlooking the city’s community holiday tree.

The highlight of the evening begins at 5:30 p.m., when the crowd will join in a community countdown to illuminate the holiday tree in a sparkling light display. A fireworks show will immediately follow, offering a bright, and loud, finale to the celebration.

As part of the city’s commitment to community giving, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or monetary donations. Contributions will support the Coon Rapids High School food shelf and the Cardinal Compassion Fund, which provide essential food and emergency support for students and families in need.

The Tree Lighting Festival has quickly become one of Coon Rapids’ most beloved winter events, drawing families, neighbors, and visitors from across the north metro each year. Co-hosted with the Coon Rapids Community Strength Foundation, the festival blends festive fun with philanthropy, while marking the informal start of the city’s holiday season.

The City of Coon Rapids invites the entire community to gather, celebrate, give back, and enjoy an evening of light, music, and winter spirit.
