COON RAPIDS, MN – The City of Coon Rapids is inviting residents to lace up for one final celebration on the ice as the Coon Rapids Ice Center (CRIC) hosts its last themed skating event of the year, the Holiday Skate with Rocky, on Sunday, December 21, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
The annual holiday skate has become a cherished winter tradition for families across the

community, bringing together festive music, public skating, and the beloved city mascot, Rocky the Raccoon, who will join skaters on the rink for greetings, photos, and holiday cheer. Rocky, the City’s official mascot, is a playful nod to local history – Coon Rapids derives its name from Coon Creek, where early settlers frequently observed raccoons along its banks.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the Holiday Exhibition by the Coon Rapids Skating School, which begins at 4:50 p.m. The exhibition features performances by student skaters and gives families a chance to see the developing talent supported by the Ice Center’s robust youth programs.
Event organizers also encourage visitors to embrace the theme by wearing festive holiday sweaters, adding a bright splash of color and tradition to the community skate.
The event will follow regular public skating admission rates, as outlined by the City of Coon Rapids:
For added convenience, guests may rent skates on-site for $4 per pair.
The Ice Center will also offer concessions and skate sharpening services, making it easy for families to enjoy a comfortable and complete evening on the ice.
