Three Passengers Wounded in Shooting on METRO C Line Bus in North Minneapolis; Suspects Remain at Large
Three passengers were injured Friday afternoon after a shooting on a METRO C Line bus in North Minneapolis, triggering a large police response and an ongoing investigation by transit and city law enforcement.
The incident occurred shortly after 3:25 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, near the intersection of 36th Avenue North and Penn Avenue North, according to officials with Metro Transit Police and the Minneapolis Police Department.
What Happened
Authorities said the shooting stemmed from a confrontation involving several individuals who were riding the northbound bus. According to Metro Transit spokesperson Drew Kerr, the group exited the bus at the stop near 36th Avenue North and Penn Avenue North. Moments later, at least one individual turned back toward the bus and fired multiple rounds through the windows as the vehicle pulled away.
In an effort to protect passengers, the bus driver continued north for several blocks and stopped near 43rd Avenue North and Penn Avenue North, where officers and emergency medical personnel met the bus. Police reported finding shattered glass and multiple bullet holes in the vehicle upon arrival.
Victims and Medical Response
Three passengers were struck by gunfire and transported to North Memorial Hospital for treatment.
One victim was reported in critical but stable condition late Friday, while the other two sustained non life threatening injuries and are expected to recover. The bus driver and additional passengers were not physically injured, though several were treated for shock at the scene.
Suspects and Search Efforts
Law enforcement officials said as many as five individuals are believed to be involved in the incident.
The primary suspected shooter was described as a Black male wearing a dark gray jacket, a black hoodie, black jeans, and black shoes.
A helicopter operated by the Minnesota State Patrol was deployed to assist with the search, and officers established a multi block perimeter in the Victory neighborhood. The perimeter was later lifted after suspects were not located, and no arrests had been announced as of late Friday night.
Investigation Continues
The Metro Transit Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from Minneapolis police.
Investigators are reviewing high definition surveillance footage from cameras inside the bus as well as exterior cameras along the route and in nearby areas. Authorities said the motive for the shooting has not been confirmed, but investigators believe the incident began as a targeted dispute rather than a random act of violence.
Officials indicated that images from surveillance footage may be released publicly if doing so could help identify those involved.
