COON RAPIDS, Minn. - The City of Coon Rapids, Minnesota’s 15th largest city, has entered its annual seasonal and professional recruitment cycle, opening positions across law enforcement, winter recreation, and municipal engineering as the city prepares for both the remainder of the winter season and the 2026 construction year.
City officials confirmed that all openings are being administered through the city’s official hiring platform on GovernmentJobs, which hosts detailed job descriptions, qualifications, pay ranges, and application deadlines.
The Coon Rapids Police Department is seeking candidates for several sworn and non-sworn positions that support both frontline public safety and investigative operations.
Police Officer (full-time, sworn)
The city continues to accept applications on a rolling basis for full-time police officers. Candidates must be POST eligible in Minnesota by early 2026. The position carries an hourly wage range of approximately $38.97 to $51.89, translating to an annual salary between roughly $81,000 and $108,000 depending on step placement. The department emphasizes officer wellness, offering on-site fitness facilities and designated wellness days as part of its benefits structure.
Police Reserve Officer (volunteer)
Coon Rapids is also recruiting volunteer police reserve officers, a non-sworn role that provides staffing support for community events such as Fourth of July celebrations, parades, and traffic or emergency assistance. Reserve officers are required to attend monthly meetings, typically held on the second Sunday of each month, and complete a reserve academy that includes CPR, first aid, and response-to-resistance training. While the role is primarily volunteer, some assignments may qualify for hourly compensation after certification.
Investigative and Evidence Technician (full-time, non-sworn)
A time-sensitive opening exists for an Investigative and Evidence Technician, a technical role responsible for maintaining the chain of custody for physical evidence. Duties include cataloging and safeguarding evidence, processing investigative requests, conducting background checks, and occasionally testifying in court regarding evidence handling procedures. The posted pay range is approximately $31.05 to $38.69 per hour, with an application deadline of December 31, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. Central Time.
As a city that manages more than 2,300 acres of parkland and multiple outdoor skating facilities, Coon Rapids continues to hire seasonal staff for winter operations.
Warming House Attendants (seasonal, part-time)
These entry-level positions typically run December through February, with schedules averaging 15 to 20 hours per week. Pay ranges from $13 to $15 per hour. Attendants are stationed at outdoor rinks located in Riverview, Sand Creek, Thorpe, and Wintercrest parks. Responsibilities include opening and closing facilities, monitoring rink use, enforcing safety rules, and performing light maintenance such as snow removal. Applicants must be at least 16 years old, making the role a common first job for students and young workers.

Looking ahead to the 2026 construction season, the city’s Engineering Division is recruiting paid interns to assist with infrastructure projects throughout the community.
Civil Engineering Intern (seasonal, full-time)
This internship focuses on construction inspection, surveying, and field data collection. Interns work alongside survey crews on street and utility projects, measure construction quantities for contractor payments, and use GNSS technology for topographic surveys. The position is paid at approximately $17 to $19 per hour, is open until filled, and is expected to begin in mid-May 2026 following interviews in early to mid-February.
Engineering Intern, Right of Way Management (seasonal, full-time)
This specialized internship centers on the management of public right of way areas, the transition zones between private property and city streets. Duties include assisting with utility permitting for projects such as fiber optic and gas installations, verifying compliance with city code within curb-adjacent areas, supporting land record research, and assisting with eminent domain documentation. Compensation and scheduling mirror the civil engineering internship.
All applications must be submitted online through the city’s official portal on GovernmentJobs. City officials note that screening is based primarily on the information provided in the application itself, with resumes considered supplemental. Finalists for all positions are subject to criminal background checks.
