A City in Prayer: Renee Good Vigil to Begin at Site of Fatal Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS, MN

Exactly seven days after the sound of gunfire echoed through the Central neighborhood, the silence of prayer is set to take its place.

Community members, faith leaders, and grieving neighbors will gather today, Wednesday, January 14, 2026, for a solemn three-hour prayer vigil in memory of Renee Nicole Good. The 37-year-old mother of three and local poet was fatally shot by a federal ICE agent at this location last Wednesday morning.

Organized by community activist Sheletta Brundidge and her nonprofit, ShelettaMakesADifference.org, the vigil is designed to be a peaceful, stationary presence focused on unity. The event’s start time is 9:37:13 a.m. is a deliberate and somber tribute, marking the precise second Good’s life was taken one week ago.

"This is the moment her three children lost their mother," Brundidge said. "We can’t do it by ourselves; we need each other and, most of all, we need God’s help."

The vigil will last for three hours, a duration chosen to symbolize both the three bullets fired during the incident and the three children Good leaves behind. In lieu of marches or speeches, attendees will stand in 30-minute shifts of silent reflection and collective prayer.
