A 24-year-old St. Paul man is in custody at the Ramsey County Jail following a fatal shooting early Saturday morning in North St. Paul that left a 19-year-old from Coon Rapids dead, authorities said.
According to the North St. Paul Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:04 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, to the Cedarview Commons apartment complex in the 2000 block of Ninth Avenue East after receiving a report of an assault.
When officers arrived, they found Nehemiah Davis, 19, of Coon Rapids, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers and emergency medical personnel immediately rendered lifesaving aid, but Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner later confirmed Davis’s identity.

On Tuesday, January 13, police announced the arrest of Zay’vion Edgerson, 24, of St. Paul, in connection with the shooting. Edgerson was booked into the Ramsey County Jail and is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder. The case has been referred to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office for charging consideration.
North St. Paul Police Chief Raymond Rozales said preliminary information suggests the shooting may have been a random act. Authorities have not publicly released a motive or detailed the circumstances leading up to the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting local police with the investigation. Both agencies have emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
