The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office has introduced Sedona, a 3-year-old Yellow Labrador and Golden Retriever mix, as its newest support dog, expanding the office’s efforts to create a more compassionate and supportive environment for both community members and employees.

Sedona was generously provided by Can Do K9s and will be handled by Victim Advocate Tristin Gillespie. In her role, Sedona will provide comfort to individuals who have experienced trauma, as well as to staff members working in high-stress situations throughout the Sheriff’s Office.

Support dogs like Sedona are increasingly used in public safety and advocacy settings to help reduce anxiety, ease emotional distress, and provide a calming presence during difficult moments. Their presence can be especially meaningful during interviews, follow-up meetings, and other interactions that may be emotionally challenging for victims of crime.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Sedona is already settling into her role and has begun supporting staff, demonstrating the gentle temperament and steady demeanor that make her well-suited for this work.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for Sedona’s addition, noting that her calm presence will help foster a safer, more supportive space for everyone who enters the office.
