Coon Rapids residents seeking help with mental health, housing instability, substance use, food access and other challenges can meet privately with a social worker embedded in the city’s police department. The free drop-in service requires no appointment.

COON RAPIDS, MN (August 6, 2026) The City of Coon Rapids is inviting residents to meet with social workers embedded in the Coon Rapids Police Department during a free community outreach session Thursday afternoon.

The session will run from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 6, at Coon Rapids Fire Station 3, located at 3150 111th Avenue. The service is open to everyone, and no appointment is required.

According to the city, the department’s social workers can help residents identify available programs, understand their options and connect with organizations equipped to address a range of personal and household needs.

Help With a Range of Challenges

Residents may seek assistance involving:

• Mental health concerns
• Substance use
• Homelessness or housing insecurity
• Food insecurity
• Financial insecurity
• Employment or job insecurity
• Child and parenting concerns
• Services for older adults and aging-related needs

The social workers do not replace emergency responders or long-term service providers. Instead, they help connect people with appropriate community resources and provide guidance to residents who may not know where to begin.

The program also offers an alternative point of contact for needs that do not necessarily require a traditional law-enforcement response.

Recurring Drop-In Sessions

Coon Rapids generally holds the outreach sessions twice each month at Fire Station 3, except when the schedule is affected by a holiday.

Sessions are normally offered:

• From 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month
• From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month

Following the August 6 session, the city calendar lists the next opportunity for Tuesday, August 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the same location.

No appointment is needed for either session.

When Immediate Help Is Needed

The drop-in outreach program is intended for resource navigation and nonemergency assistance. Anyone facing an immediate threat to life or safety should call 911.
