COON RAPIDS, MN (August 18, 2026) Residents experiencing mental-health concerns, housing instability, financial hardship or other challenges can meet with a social worker today during a free drop-in session offered through the Coon Rapids Police Department.

The session will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, at Coon Rapids Fire Station 3, 3150 111th Avenue NW.

The service is open to everyone. No appointment is required, and residents may arrive at any point during the three-hour session.

The social workers are embedded with the Coon Rapids Police Department but provide assistance and connections to community resources rather than law-enforcement services.

According to the city, assistance may be available for concerns involving mental health, substance use, homelessness or housing insecurity, food insecurity, financial hardship, unemployment, parenting, child-related needs and challenges affecting older adults.

The program is designed to give residents a direct and accessible way to speak with a trained professional who can help them identify appropriate services. Depending on a person’s circumstances, that may include referrals to mental-health or substance-use treatment, housing programs, food assistance, employment resources, financial support or services for families and older adults.

The city holds the free sessions twice each month, except when they conflict with holidays. Sessions are scheduled from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Tuesday.

Fire Station 3 is the program’s summer location. The sessions were previously held at the Crooked Lake branch of the Anoka County Library.

Residents who cannot attend today’s session may contact the department’s embedded social workers directly.

Lori Halbur can be reached at 763-767-6521 or lhalbur@coonrapidsmn.gov. Jess Hoppe can be reached at 763-767-6528 or jhoppe@coonrapidsmn.gov.
