Petro Prices Plunge At Blaine Gas Station

Everyone loves an early holiday gift – which is exactly what some drivers are getting this month in the North Metro.

The Speedway gas station at the intersection of Cloud and Radisson roads in Blaine has become a winter hot spot. In early December, petro was going for just $2.55 a gallon.

“There’s a lot of people coming in,” said Dann Frischmon of Blaine.

“Alright,” said Nikki Bang of Little Canada. “Time to fill up.”

According to Gas Buddy, this Speedway has some of the lowest prices in the entire state of Minnesota.

“It’s nice,” said Blaine’s Asiah Hajicek. “I personally don’t have much money at the moment so I’m gonna save some money and go here.”

Said Frischmon: “It’s exciting to see it down.”

“I saved 15 bucks easily”

On a recent Friday there was a steady stream of people pulling up and gassing up. Cheap fuel has a magnetic tug on drivers looking for a bargain.

“I think so,” Bang said. “Makes going to places easier.”

“I thought I saved a lot,” Hajicek said. “Usually I spend like 45 or almost $50 for a full tank and it was like $30.”

“I filled up,” Frischmon said. “I bet you I saved 15 bucks easily. 15 to 20 bucks.”

Once the costs dropped and became common knowledge, word spread like wildfire through parts of the North Metro.

“I was told by somebody at work that actually just went up here,” Frischmon said.

Said Hajicek: “Actually my mom told me this morning.”

“It’s good for the holidays”

The low gas prices caught some drivers off guard.

“Yes I was,” Bang said. “I figured Blaine would be a little more…I like to fill up at half a tank and I was on my way and I’m like I should see if it’s cheap over here and it came up.”

“I am actually surprised,” Hajicek said. “Usually it’s like almost $3 or even more. It’s usually $4 by the Holiday that I live at.”

“I was surprised,” Frischmon said.

Hajicek says she would go out of her way to gas up at this Speedway.

“Of course,” Hajicek said. “Even if it’s 10 miles I would drive over here. It’s good for the holidays.”

The plunging petro prices puts this Blaine Speedway on an island, because other stations close by charge much more per gallon.

“The gas prices vary anywhere from 20 to 30 to maybe 40 cents at a time,” Frischmon said. “You go to a Holiday or a different store, they’re right on the same block, the difference on ’em, I don’t get it. Must be better gas or something.”

On Monday, Triple A’s gas price chart for the US had Texas with the lowest average for regular at $2.61 a gallon. In Minnesota it is $2.94.
