Blaine Approves New Extension At Goddard School

At the Blaine City Council meeting held on Monday, May 5, 2025, the council members unanimously approved a conditional use permit amendment for an expansion at The Goddard School located at 12612 Central Avenue NE in Blaine, Minnesota.

According to Sheila Sellman, the Assistant Community Development Director for the City of Blaine, the approved addition to the existing childcare center will be 8,522 square feet.

Sellman also clarified that the zoning district where The Goddard School is situated is designated as Development Flex (DF). The properties surrounding the school are also zoned under Development Flex, accommodating a mix of low-density residential, high-density residential, and commercial uses.

The approval of this conditional use permit amendment by the Blaine City Council signifies the city's consent for The Goddard School to proceed with its expansion plans within the existing zoning regulations. A conditional use permit is typically required when a specific type of land use is permitted within a zoning district but may have unique characteristics or potential impacts that necessitate review and the imposition of conditions to ensure compatibility with surrounding properties and the overall community.

The public was able to attend the meeting at the Blaine City Hall Council Chambers or watch it live on the city's cable channel or via a livestream. Written comments were also accepted by the city prior to the meeting. The Blaine Planning Commission had previously held a public hearing on this matter on April 8, 2025, to gather public input before making a recommendation to the City Council.
